Send messages via e-Boks

Addo Sign enables you to send messages via e-Boks. This is useful for important communications where the recipient must be uniquely identified and delivery must take place through a secure and official digital channel.

How to get started

Before you can use e-Boks as a distribution method, the integration must be set up on your account.

If it has not been set up, contact our support team at [email protected] and we will help you get started.

Note: when sending via address

If you send via e-Boks using an address instead of a CPR number, e-Boks must be able to uniquely identify the recipient based on the provided address information.

The recipient must also have given consent in e-Boks for e-Boks to process their CPR number in order to retrieve address information. If this consent has not been given, the sending may fail even if the address is correct.

The sending may also fail if the recipient has name or address protection, or if the entered information does not match the information registered with e-Boks.

In the transaction log, the error may be shown as: End user not recognised

How to use e-Boks for messaging

If the integration is already set up, you need to create a Secure File Transfer template to send messages via e-Boks.

How to set up a template for Secure File Transfer via e-Boks

  1. Go to Settings (⚙️) and select Templates in the left-hand menu

  2. Choose Template Type: Secure file transfer templates

  3. Click Create New to create a template:

Once the template is created, you will see several options for configuring the template settings.

Below, we outline the default and recommended settings for sending messages via e-Boks.

For more details about additional options, see the article on how to setup the Secure File Transfer template.

Settings for Secure File Transfer template for e-Boks messages

When creating your template, select e-Boks as the sending method.

You can choose between:

  • e-Boks (private)

  • e-Boks (company)

If you plan to use both, we recommend creating two separate templates:

  • one for private recipients

  • one for company recipients

Encryption

You also have the option to apply encryption to the document.

Most users do not enable this, as MitID is already required to access e-Boks. However, encryption can be added as an extra layer of security if the information is particularly sensitive.

Recommended delivery setting

The most common setup is to select Send files directly:

This means:

  • The recipient receives the message as a PDF in their e-Boks inbox

  • The document can be opened immediately without additional steps

These are the standard settings we recommend for sending messages via e-Boks.

If encryption is enabled, the recipient will need to complete the required security step before accessing the document.

Email content section (UI clarification)

When using e-Boks delivery, you may notice an Email content section in the template:

  • This is a standard part of the UI

  • It is only used if the email channel is selected

  • It is not used when e-Boks is selected

This means, that email is not required for e-Boks delivery.

How to send a message using e-Boks

  1. Go to Send in the menu

  2. Select Secure file transfer

  3. Choose the e-Boks template you have created:

  4. Click Add signer (or ➕ icon):

  5. Select e-Boks in Notifications and enter the recipient’s:

    • name and CPR number

    • or postal address

Email addresses are not required, as the system uses CPR or address data to ensure accurate delivery

  6. Upload your files by:

    • dragging them into the file field

    • or clicking the ➕ icon

  7. Click Send to deliver the message directly to the recipient’s e-Boks inbox
