Instead, delivery is based on the recipient’s name and address. The document is only delivered if a unique recipient can be identified.
How delivery works
When sending without a CPR number:
You provide the recipient’s name and address
e-Boks compares the information with registered address data
If no unique match is found, delivery fails
This ensures that documents are only delivered when the recipient can be identified with sufficient certainty.
Consent for address lookup in e-Boks
When sending documents via e-Boks without a CPR number, delivery is based on the recipient’s name and address. The document can only be delivered if e-Boks can uniquely identify the recipient from the provided information.
For e-Boks to match the recipient based on address information, the recipient must have given consent for e-Boks to process their CPR number in order to retrieve address information. This consent is not given for each individual sending. It is a general setting in e-Boks.
If the recipient has not given this consent, delivery may fail even if the name and address are correct.
The recipient can check or change the consent in e-Boks:
On the e-Boks website:
Log in to e-Boks
Go to Menu → Settings → Consents
Give or withdraw consent for receiving mail based on address information
In the e-Boks app:
Log in to the e-Boks app
Go to Profile → Settings → Consents
Give or withdraw consent for e-Boks to process the CPR number in order to retrieve address information
Delivery may fail if:
the recipient has not given consent for address lookup in e-Boks
the recipient has name or address protection
the name or address does not match the registered information
e-Boks cannot uniquely identify the recipient
In the transaction log, this type of error may be shown as:
End user not recognised
If you see this error, the recipient should check their consent settings in e-Boks and make sure that the provided name and address match the registered information.
Data requirements
To ensure successful delivery, the recipient information must be accurate:
First name must match the recipient’s first given name
Last name must match the last part of the full name
Address must match registered address data
Incorrect or incomplete information will result in failed delivery.
⚠️ Recipients with name and address protection cannot receive the document
