Change a signer’s Authentication or Signature method

This article shows how to change the Authentication or Signature method for a signer on a transaction that has already been sent.

Use this article if you only need to update how a signer identifies themselves or signs the document. For a full overview of editable signer fields, see Edit transaction details on a sent transaction.

Before you start

You can only change Authentication or Signature method while the transaction has the status Started and the signer has not yet identified themselves or signed.

You cannot change these methods after the signer has identified themselves or completed their part of the signing flow.

Some methods may be linked. For example, if the transaction uses MitID, Authentication and Signature may be connected. If you change the method that is not locked, the linked method may reset to None, so you can select a new combination.

You do not need to send a new notification if you only change Authentication or Signature. The change applies to the signer’s existing signing flow, and the original signing link remains valid.

How to change the Authentication or Signature method

  1. Go to Overview

  2. Click the transaction row to open the transaction you want to update

  3. Select the signer whose method you want to update

  4. Click Edit in Transaction details:

  5. Open the Authentication or Signature dropdown

  6. Select the new method:

  7. Click Save

The updated method now applies to the signer’s existing signing flow.

If you cannot change the method

If you cannot change Authentication or Signature, check whether:

  • The transaction has the status Started

  • The signer has already identified themselves

  • The signer has already signed

  • You selected the correct signer

  • You have access to edit the transaction

  • The method is available for the transaction setup

  • The method is linked to another method, for example MitID

If the signer has already identified themselves or signed, you may need to copy the transaction or create a new one instead.
